Summer Driving Tips
Summer months often inspire long road trips to the beach, weekends at the lake, or even a warm afternoon soaking up the sun by the pool. No matter what your plans are, you’ll need your car to get you there. Make sure that whatever you’re doing, you get there safely. For a few driving safety tips to keep yourself and your family out of harm’s way this summer, read our list below.
Before you leave for whatever trip you have planned, be it a quick run down the street or a cross-country drive to the coast, make sure you have a plan. While winging-it can be fun, it certainly doesn’t keep you safe in the event of an emergency. Make sure you know where you plan to go, and that there will be sufficient gas to get you there. Be sure to have a map in your car, just in case.
2. Vehicle Upkeep
Make sure your car is in tip-top shape before you head out on any trip. Check for leaks, check tire pressure, and make sure any routine maintenance is taken care of. If you suspect any problems, take it in to a trusted mechanic and see to it that everything is safe and read for the road.
3. Abide By the Law
Traffic safety laws exist for our own protection, and following them only helps you. Make sure you follow all traffic laws, driving at the speed limit, using your blinker, and following other rules to keep yourself, and everyone else on the road, as safe as possible.
4. Share the Road
Drivers certainly won’t be the only ones out enjoying the summer weather. Summertime usually brings out bicyclists, motorcycle riders, runners, and other outdoor enthusiasts, so be aware of their presence and share the road.
